Subsidised Food Programme
A pilot program launched in June 2020, the project has had tremendous success and became an on-going project.
Affordable Bread
The COVID-19 lockdown provided an insight to access to staple food that was affordable for the common man in rural areas. Due to the economic disruption, price of basic necessities sky-rocketed.
The Trust’s Sasti Roti campaign allowed baked bread to be accessible at an affordable price of PKR 3 alongside dhal/lentils. A one time, fulfilling meal as opposed to current situations in the city.
An initial one-time investment for a baker, open oven under a procured rooftop and we have a hut catering to affordable ready-made bread in a time of economic destitution. Each stall can feed over 5,000 discounted meals per month. Every buyer is allowed a maximum purchase of 10 breads so that quantity is managed as well as ensuring every vulnerable individual goes home with their hands full.
To date, there are two such stations that exist and being carefully monitored and evaluated for effectiveness in the town of Chichawatni, Punjab. Statistics extracted from monitoring and evaluation reports, have allowed Deen Trust International to expand plan expanding to 10 identified locations throughout the Punjab and Sindh area. throughout the project will further expand into identified areas where people need this campaign the most.
