An Ode to Pakistan’s Greatest Entertainer

Moin Akhtar was a Pakistani television, film and stage artist, humorist, comedian, impersonator, host, writer, singer, director and producer who rose to fame in the era of Radio Pakistan along with his co-actors Anwer Maqsood and Bushra Ansari. He became an icon through his screen persona “Rosy” and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry of the sub continent. His career spanned more than 45 years, from childhood in the Radio Pakistan era of modern film making until a year before his death in 2011. Moin Akhtar’s personal philanthropic efforts became public knowledge following his demise.

ABOUT

Deen Trust International is a charity based in the United Kingdom in The City of Nottingham in the East Midlands set up by M. Ali Din in August 2005. The Trust was established to help the poor, needy and underprivileged with basic health facilities, along with tools of empowerment and independence. Within its first few years, the Trust was able to build The Moin Akhtar Memorial Hospital, a 22 bed complex providing free medical treatment.

MISSION

To provide free medical healthcare to those below the poverty line as well as develop projects which will help alleviate their suffering.

A FACILITY MADE TO HEAL

Located in Chichawatni, Punjab, Pakistan, the flagship project of the organization, is free of charge to approximately 60,000 people and provides comprehensive healthcare. It caters to a population that earns less than USD $1 per day.

The Moin Akhtar Memorial Hospital is pioneered to save lives not just for patients going through various ailments, but also aims to address maternity requirements through its maternity ward by providing the community with state-of-the-art medical facilities, as well as improving access to health care overall.

The hospital inaugurated its first phase – an outpatient treatment department – in 2011, with wings being added to the 10,000 sq. ft. facility. The hospital has been treating approximately 100 patients a day, providing them with free medicine and skilled consultancies. The Moin Akhtar Memorial Hospital aims to eventually be a teaching hospital that involves students with all aspects of care.

Water wells give access to consumable, safe drinking water to hundreds of villagers in rural areas. We have completed a number of water wells in areas of Sindh and South Punjab, Pakistan.

The construction of these wells in strategic locations saves women having to walk miles to the closest water source which may not be safe for consumption – leading to many a water contamination. illness.

Each water well is completed with a gift of £750. We need your help to complete our target of 25.

TREATMENT WITH A DIAGNOSIS

The Moin Akhtar Memorial Hospital is committed to ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care without any financial burden. Our hospital offers free consultations, necessary tests, and medications. We have two dedicated pharmacists available at all times, ready to dispense five days’ worth of medication unless otherwise instructed by the doctor.

Our central dispensary serves as a vital hub for the community, maintaining a monthly supply of essential antibiotics and wound care items, catering to the needs of numerous people in the area.

Located in the remote area of Chichawatni, Punjab, where access to pharmacies is not only limited by above the average pay of a laborer – the dispensary ensures that the community receives quality healthcare services. We provide free medications to those in need and offer discounted rates to those who can afford it. Our mission is to make healthcare accessible to all.

The set-up cost of a single dispensary is approximately £2,000, including a one-year running cost. It covers basic healthcare for the workers along with their wages, rent of the building and medicine for the entire year. Health dispensaries assist the Moin Akhtar Memorial Hospital’s outpatient facility. Deen Trust International is committed to supporting underserved communities with limited access to essential healthcare services through our annual medical camps. These camps play a crucial role in offering cost-free diagnosis and treatment plans, thanks to the dedicated doctors we enlist from city hospitals in the Punjab area.

Our medical camps are conducted in conjunction with the Moin Akhtar Memorial Hospital, situated on its premises, and they focus on addressing three primary health concerns that afflict the impoverished region: Ophthalmology, Hepatitis, and Diabetes.

The Eye Camps serve as a vital resource for assessing and improving vision, as we provide prescription glasses to enhance visual acuity. Additionally, our Eye Camps offer testing for cataracts and provide fully funded cataract removal operations to those in urgent need. In 2022, our team at Deen Trust International facilitated the transportation of 62 patients to three local hospitals, where they received the necessary cataract surgeries.

These annual camps also serve as community-based testing centers for Hepatitis and Diabetes, where we offer free testing and medication for these prevalent health issues. Furthermore, our commitment extends to providing free treatment for individuals who lack the means to cover their medical expenses.

Vision

Licensed ophthalmologists and opticians offer communities free eye tests, medications and corrective treatments, as required. Endocrinologists and GP’s travel from the city to help diagnose and treat patients for free. To continue Deen Trust International’s aim to offer specialized and professional medical camps in areas most needed, ongoing support from donors is required to cover the costs of travel, setting up of the camps, medications, tests and treatments.

Help Feed A Family For A Month

Deen Trust International provides ways for Muslims to provide humanitarian aid through their special once in a year Zakat amount during their Holy Month of Ramadan

During the Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan, the Trust develops food packs consisting of lentils, rice, flour, protein, spice and hygiene products to distribute in vulnerable areas where Muslims reside. Giving donors the opportunity to sponsor one food pack, helps in assisting a household of six. at a time for an entire month.

Due to the current political situation the country is in, many families are in urgent need of food packs to get through the month of Ramadan.

For just £40, you can provide a family of six with essential food items such as rice, flour, oil, sugar, salt, masala, and even hygiene products like soap and detergent. These packs are a lifeline for families who rely on daily earnings of less than £0.75, to put food on the table.

Goal

Our goal is to deliver 400 packs to families in need across four locations in Pakistan: Chichawatni, Karachi, DG Khan, and Interior Sindh. By contributing to this cause, you can make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.
